شنب او شارب هو نمو شعر الوجه فوق الشفة العليا و تحت الأنف. واتوضب باشكال مختلفة عبر التاريخ.
كلمة "شارب" او شنب هيا كلمة فرنسية ، هيا مشتقة من الكلمة الإيطالية mustaccio (القرن الاربعتاشر)، واللهجة mostaccio (القرن الستاشر)، من اللاتينية فى العصور الوسطانيه mustacchium (القرن الثامن)، واليونانية فى العصور الوسطانيه μουστάκιον ( moustakion )، واللى تم توثيقها فى القرن التاسع، واللى نشأت فى النهاية كصيغة تصغير للكلمة اليونانية الهلنستية μύσταξ ( mustax ، mustak- )، واللى تعنى "الشفة العليا" أو "شعر الوجه"، [1] ممكن مشتقة من الكلمة اليونانية الهلنستية μύλλον ( mullon )، "شفه".[2][3]
يقال عن الشخص اللى له شارب أنه "ذو شارب" أو "ذو شارب" (غالبا ما يشير الأخير لشارب كبير أو كثيف بشكل خاص).
